Why should I use Lightbox?

Lightbox provides a streamlined interface for browsing photo albums on any device, without the bloat found in most other photo-hosting services. And by utilizing Google Drive for storage, Lightbox makes it incredibly easy to manage your photo albums, and just as easy to pull your data out in case you decide to switch to a different service.

How much does Lightbox cost?

Lightbox is currently free, but eventually we'll start charging a small amount for premium features to cover our expenses. We expect to charge at most $1 per month, and possibly less.

Where are my photos stored?

Your photos are stored in and served from the "Lightbox" folder in your Google Drive. Creating an album is as easy as making a new folder and putting your photos in it.

Where are my captions, comments, and likes stored?

For performance and manageability reasons, these are all stored in a secure cloud database administered by Lightbox. However, we have no intention of holding your data hostage, and plan to make it so you can export this data on demand.

How do I reorder my folders/images?

  1. Make sure you're logged in: click the menu icon in the top right, then check for a "Log In" link.
  2. Once you're logged in, visit the page where you want to reorder things.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the top right, then drag-and-drop your folders/images to reorder them.

How do I change the cover image for a folder?

  1. Make sure you're logged in: click the menu icon in the top right, then check for a "Log In" link.
  2. Once you're logged in, visit the folder whose cover image you want to change.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the top right, then click the circular button in the bottom right of your desired cover image.

To set a cover image for a folder that contains nothing but other folders, put the desired cover image in the target folder and name the image "_cover.jpg". (Other file extensions are also okay.)

Why do my high-resolution photos get resized?

When displaying the slideshow view, Lightbox scales down high-resolution photos so that the long edge is at most 1200 pixels. This is done to reduce page load time: without the rescaling, such photos would take exceedingly long to load. (Note, Lightbox never modifies the files stored in your Google Drive.)

Does Lightbox support Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive?

Not yet, but we plan to. Please email us at support@lghtbx.com if this is something you'd like so we know there's demand for it.

Why doesn't Lightbox have feature X?

Lightbox aims to be minimalistic and therefore omits various non-essential features found in other online photo album websites. That being said, there are a number of features we may add in the future, based on demand:

  • Customizable look and feel
  • Unlisted albums
  • Private albums

How do I delete my Lightbox account?

Lightbox uses Google accounts for sign-in, so to delete your account you must remove Lightbox's access to your Google account:

  1. Visit Google's apps connected to your account page (see also this help page).
  2. Select Lightbox from the list of apps, then click the "remove" button. Lightbox will no longer have access to your Google Drive data (or any other Google profile data).

Once you've completed these steps, if you attempt to visit your Lightbox page, you should get an error.
